Proposition 8

What a heated subject this is around here.

I attended a broadcast last week that the leaders of the church put on about this proposition, and It really made me think about some things.

In the broadcast the brethren encouraged us as members of the church to talk about this subject often and if we were computer literate we should be blogging, facebooking and such about it as well. The quote they gave was "We should be going viral with prop 8 in getting our message out there." Now I have no idea what viral is but I am doing my part with my blog.

This is how I feel...

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a Mormon. I am also a Christian. I have a cousin who is gay and my husbands uncle is gay. I have met both partners and they are always welcome in my home. I love them, and so do my children. I am following Christ's example and have been taught to love everyone, everyone is a child of God. I don't however condone their behavior, and they know my feelings. But this does not diminish the love I have for them, or make them feel uncomfortable in any way or at any time around me. And neither do they love me any less because of my feelings.

With that being said, people say that if you vote Yes on 8 you are taking the rights away from the Gay community to be married. Well, here in Ca, the gay community has the same rights short of a marriage license that any Heterosexual couple has. They can both be covered under health benefits with employers, they can adopt children etc. So in truth nothing is being taken away from them if this prop passes.

My fear of this bill not passing is that it will effect My religious freedom. If Proposition 8 does not pass I will be considered intolerant of others because of my beliefs. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we believe that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God. In the Bible it says "Therefore shall a man leave his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Genesis 2:24

Because Mormons do not believe in marriage between anyone other than a man and woman, we would then be expected to have Homosexual marriages performed in our churches. Well that goes against everything we believe in, and goes against our religious freedom. For those of you who say that will never happen, it already has. A close friend of mines dad is a Bishop, and has already been approached by a young man that grew up Mormon asking him to marry him and his partner. He said that "Now that it is legal, you have to." I know this is not an everyday occurrence, but homosexual couples will do this just to prove a point.

If we say no to homosexual couples being married in our chapels, we will be labeled intolerant to others, and be accused of not obeying the law. So not only will the Mormon church be labeled intolerant, we will loose our freedom to believe what we want. So this proposition not only affects my freedom of religion, but my freedom of speech as well.

David A. Bednar, an apostle of the church said, "It is not the initial drop of the stone in the pond, it is the ripples that will have the most affect." If the proposition does not pass, it will not be a big deal right now for us. But in the next few years is where you will see the repercussions of our actions.

It is not just the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that will be affected. Any religion that believes that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God will be affected in these same ways.

I also don't want my son coming home from Kindergarten telling me that his teacher told him that he could marry another boy...I am not ready to have that discussion with him and I don't like the fact that the public school system will be taking my rights away as a parent, all in the name of the law. I am still the parent, and I decide!

I am voting yes on Proposition 8, and if you care about your freedom, and your children's freedom you should too.

**As you can see, I have chosen to make my feelings known public, and are putting them out there for others to read. All I ask in return is that if you comment on this, you respect me and understand that my children read this blog, so please don't post anything that would not be appropriate for young children to read.

Thank you.

A Milestone...

I have had one of these for a little over 14 years now.

With every child I put it up about a month before they were born and carefully arranged the bedding just so that is was ready for my bundle of joy to come home.

I was so excited yet sad to have to change the bedding from pink to blue when my sons were born. I was so used to girls that I was a little scared to have a boy. Little did I know how much a boy would make me feel as a mom. I think they actually love me more than my girls did.

After about 2 years I would be counting the days down to when I could take it down and pack it away until the next child. I would take it down, more often than not uttering a few choice words that I hoped my kids did not hear hear when I smashed my fingers or heard my back crack. I always had to use at least 3 different sized screwdrivers and contort my body in positions it was not meant to be in to get at the screws!

Not to mention always wondering why didn't I clean this thing up before I took it down the last time?

When it was finally apart, I would always think, I should clean this thing up before I pack it away. But I never did, because I was so frustrated. I would put all the screws in a bag and have Dave put it all up in the rafters for a year until the next baby. Hoping that when we got it down the next time the screw elves didn't visit, causing us to utter more choice words as we went to Home Depot to replace them.

AHHHH the memories!!

Well yesterday, I reached a milestone...

I took my crib down for the last time!

I also gave it to my niece, so for the first time in 14 years I don't own a crib!

I was a little sad at this realization and yet excited to enter this new phase of my life. It was very surreal.

With a 14 and 11 year old in the house, I am entering the teenage phase of my life. I am in the process of turning my "Toy Room" into a "Game Room" a hang out place for their friends. I have decided that I would rather have them here than out somewhere else where I don't know what's going on.

So you would think that a milestone like this would make me feel old, it doesn't. I am actually very excited to enter this phase, and try to attempt to be a "Cool Mom!"

Ready or not, I'm Here!!!!!

Update time...

I realized yesterday, after many phone calls from friends, that I have not given an update on how Dave is doing. So here goes...

Since the stroke, Dave's range of motion in his hands, fingers, legs and feet has returned (he never really lost it, but the connection to his brain died so we had to re-route the signal). He still get tired very easily, and when he does he gets what is called slap foot. We are now working on his strength. I noticed the other day as he was climbing a ladder to change our smoke detector batteries, that he still has a ways to go with his left side.

He does however have great mobility in his hands because of this little baby...

Yes, the day after Dave was laid off from work he bought himself a little "Yeah, I don't have a job" present. And let me tell you, it has done wonders in getting his range of motion and strength back into his fingers and hand.

He had started a job 5 days before the stroke and because they said he could work from home he was able to keep working through his rehab. He now has another job as well as the first and is a workaholic, which worries me. All he needs right now is more stress!

Because neither pays what we were making before he has to do both for the time being. He is constantly putting his resume places, but the economy here in So Cal is bombing. We know there is something for him out there, we just need to have faith.

When Dave was laid off, we asked our bishop and his 1st counselor to come over and give him a blessing, because he had a terrible headache (which now we know was one of the first signs of the stroke) They gave both Dave and I a blessing. When I was getting my blessing the counselor said, and I quote "You will have patience in long suffering" I look back on that now and wonder how much more patient can I be?!?!? He is a close friend and I sure do give him a hard time every now and then about that blessing. "What a terrible thing to say!" I tell him.

I know the lord is watching out for our little family, and blessing us in ways that we can't see. I thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers on our behalf. Keep them coming we are not out of the woods yet!

I Found One!!!!!!

I have been looking and looking for this for months, and I walked into Toys R Us today and there it was.

I asked the lady behind the counter,"Is this really a Wii Fit? because there is a waiting list everywhere for 6 months". She told me that they got their shipment in this morning and 3 of them were on it. She was just as surprised as I was.

I snached it up and ran out of the store without even looking back, I was so excited.

So needless to say we have been playing with it all afternoon. Makenzy has made it the farthest and is in the Super Hula Hoop round. I wish I had a video of her, we all laugh hysterically.

She has been doing yoga, snowboarding and skiing as well. She will be so fit soon we will all have to work twice as hard to keep up with her.

The goal of this is to get me off my lazy butt, but it is so much fun watching my kids do it!
